Some columns in the magazines like Young India & Harijan were meant to be published as books. An autobiography or The story of my experiments with the truth was originally published in a newspaper column, distributed by Navajivan Trust, Ahmedabad. 

Later the issues from Navajivan trust took the form of Gandhiji's autobiography. 

The important thing to be noted is that most of the books written by Mahatma Gandhi were originally in the Gujarati language. Gujarati was his mother tongue. He knew that it would be easy for him to express his thoughts in Gujarati.
